Sumter County Schools November 2021 Board Recognition Program Mr. Walter Knighton, Superintendent of Sumter County Schools, is proud to announce the November 2021 Board Recognition Program honorees from Sumter County High School. They are: Marissa Hill, Paraprofessional; Jeanette Mitchell, Support Staff; Daphne Hamilton, Teacher; Ian Roberts, Student; Patti Ingle, Parent Volunteer; and Robert Adams, Custodian. Following the recognition and photos, the board and audience were invited to congratulate those honored. "Teachers and Parents in Support of Students” is a program that recognizes a school each month. This month, Mr. Kimothy Hadley, principal of Sumter County High School choose to recognize a parent volunteer, a student, a teacher, a paraprofessional, a support staff and a custodian for the board recognition program.

Sumter County Schools Announce Exemplary Students for the First 9 Weeks of the 2021-2022 School Year Mr. Walter Knighton, Superintendent recognized outstanding students for the first nine weeks of the 2021-2022 school year. The students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade were nominated by their teacher and then selected by their principle. The criteria for nomination was: all A’s, excellent attendance and model behavior. The students and his/her parents were invited to attend the November Board of Education meeting. As their names were called, Superintendent Knighton presented the students with an “Exemplary Student” yard sign to be displayed in their yard.

Five members of the Sumter County School’s Board attended the winter conference held in Atlanta. Sylvia Roland, Carolyn Hamilton, Vincent Kearse, Abbis Bivins and Patricia Harris along with Superintendent Walter Knighton and Administrative Assistant Andrea Wright. The attendees participated in various workshops and general meetings. At the November 11, 2021 school board meeting, the Board of Education unanimously voted to hire Mr. Walter Knighton as the next Superintendent for Sumter County Schools. SCS's Leadership continues their "Digital Convergence Journey" District Directors and Principals met in the boardroom at the Central Office while the Academic Coaches participated virtually from their school. Mr. Craig Laughtenschleger, SCS's Modern Teacher Strategy Officer lead the session Wednesday, September 22.

2021 National School Bus Safety Week: October 18-22, 2021 Held during the third full week of October each year, National School Bus Safety Week is an active and evolving public education program and an excellent way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, and other interested parties - to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety. Designed to promote school bus safety, Tracy Monts, Director of Transportation for Sumter County Schools and her staff observe School Bus Safety Week.
