New Teacher Academy

New Teacher Academy
The Sumter County School System sponsors a New Teacher Academy to support teachers new to the teaching profession by providing high-quality professional learning experiences to support the professional growth of its new teachers. Dr. Pam Fields, Director of Professional Learning and Assessment leads the professional learning sessions throughout the academic year. The sessions are designed to support members in developing strategies and identifying resources to help promote student academic growth, encourage parental involvement and promote professional development. Participants share their ideas and experiences, network with each other, and considered ways to promote the success of all students in the district. The sessions incorporate opportunities for reflection, new understandings, and applications for the classroom aligned to high-leverage inclusive practices and Georgia’s professional standards for teachers. The New Teacher Academy is successful in part from community and school stakeholders such as the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Throughout the year, the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma sent “treat bags” for the participants to enjoy.
